Bears Host Free Agents Pace, Lucas

The Bears hosted free agent tackle Orlando Pace and cornerback Ken Lucas on Monday. Both players were cut by their former teams for salary-cap reasons. Pace is rumored to be close to a deal with the Ravens, but the Bears could swoop in if negotiations fall through.

Darren Sproles, who is expected to sit out minicamp and coaching sessions in May, has yet to sign his franchise tender with the Chargers. Talks between Sproles' agent and the team are ongoing. "I know there are going to be some things that are limited, but I expect him to take part in most of (the offseason)," coach Norv Turner said. "You always want them there, you always want everyone there. But he does a great job of getting himself physically ready. . . . Darren will continue to do that."

OT Marvel Smith Agrees To Deal With 49ers

Free agent OT Marvel Smith, the former Steelers Pro Bowl standout has agreed on a multiyear contract with the 49ers, according to an ESPN report on Friday. Details of the contract, confirmed by sources close to Smith, were not yet available. But in a deal that protects the 49ers if Smith suffers further back problems, the nine-year veteran can earn more than $10M, if he is healthy for the first two seasons of the contract.

Titans Remain Interested In Holt

Torry Holt visited the Jaguars on Thursday, but the Titans remain interested in the free-agent wide receiver. "Torry is in contact with all the teams that have interest," agent Kennard McGuire told The City Paper. "He is taking one visit at a time." Jacksonville was Holt's first visit, but isn't expected to be his last.

Former Cowboys safety Roy Williams visited the Bengals on Thursday, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "It was a good workout. I wanted to evaluate him from when I remembered him," Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer said. "He's still got some quickness." Zimmer coached Williams in Dallas, where he held the same position.
